I have had several healings through Christian Science alone.   When I was in fourth grade I contracted a very serious case of poison ivy.  Due to the contagious nature of this infection, I was forced to stay home from school.  The case became quite severe and covered my entire body.  During this time, my mother would read and sing hymns to me.

One evening, a Christian Science practitioner came to our home to talk with me about God’s love for me and to pray for me.  I remember her loving words and tender look. She knew that I loved to visit the beach in the summer and started talking about the ocean.  She explained that if one little drop of that ocean decided to be different from the rest of the ocean it couldn’t be. Then she read to me from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy.  As a student in the local Christian Science Sunday School, each week I would read the Bible Lesson which includes passages from the Bible along with citations from Science and Health that help us understand the Bible.

The passage she read was “As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being. The Scripture reads: ‘For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.’ “ (p 361).  This loving practitioner explained that just like the little drop of water was one with the ocean and had to be just like the ocean, I was one with God. And since God was spiritual, loving and perfectly healthy and pure without a spot of infection, I was healthy, too. I was very comforted by these words and caught a glimpse of my identity as one with my dear Father-Mother God.

That night I went to bed and slept peacefully all night, without pain or itching. The next morning I woke up without a vestige of the infection. Every inch of my body had perfectly clear skin.

I have thought of this healing often over the years and it has helped me trust in God with great confidence.  I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and this wonderful healing through reliance on God alone.
